As the powder gradually melts, our pristine Northern Ontario wilderness becomes a hot spot for anglers, mainly because the Montreal River is home to a thriving fish population. Anglers can battle delicious walleye, trophy northern pike, colorful perch, and feisty bass on the Montreal. You’ll also discover seemingly neverending backcountry hiking, ATVing, and canoeing opportunities throughout the nearby crown land. We’re also one of the only family resorts in Ontario that provide fully-equipped yet affordable cottages, hand-delivered warm meals, and on-site saunas!
On-Site Boat Rentals
For those of you who wish to rent a pontoon, Elk Lake Wilderness Resort has a large fleet of boat rentals starting at just $110 per day. Our boat rentals are meticulously maintained and cleaned. Whether you’re hoping to reel in a trophy northern pike or cruise along the scenic Montreal River, you’ll discover that our rentals are the perfect vessels on a sunny spring day. Many guests host their own family bass-fishing tournaments during the springtime! There are approximately 41 kilometres of navigable waterways, which can be accessed quickly from our convenient boat launch. You can also take full advantage of our free on-site fish cleaning hut, located within steps of our cottages.
Backcountry Hiking and ATVing
Guests typically choose Elk Lake Wilderness Resort because of our tranquility and beauty. Once winter concludes, we swap our sleds for ATVs. There’s a seemingly endless network of backcountry trails for ATVs and even hikers within seconds of our property, which helps us remain one of the best family resorts in Ontario. We highly recommend that families embark on a brisk stroll through the nearby crown land and old-logging roads. There are several abandoned mines and backcountry lakes worth exploring – ask one of our friendly team members about these secret hidden gems!
